Yongnou st e2 Oct 09, 2011
By MT Works as advertised! I never owned the canon version so there's no way for me to compare the 2. But for my present shooting need, this product live up to my expectations. Awesomeness! And the price? Can't beat that. With that extra money compared to buying the canon version and still able to do the same thing, you can get your self a good set of stand, umbrella etc.. You got yourself an upgrade.

Excellent substitute for the Canon ST-E2 Jan 24, 2012

I bought this to trigger my 580EX II off camera. At about 1/2 the cost of the Canon version, it was a no brainer. I've never used the Canon version, so I can't compare the two in terms of build or sturdiness. But the Yongnuo is built very well, and does the job. Save your money, buy the Yongnuo, and sock away the $110 you just saved to put towards another Speedlight. You're welcome.

If you have a canon camera without a flash commander and want to shoot wireless... this is likely better than the canon product its copying (at a fraction of the cost). The big advantage is the swivel head. Depending on the position of your flash the standard canon version might not be able to communicate well (they communicate using infrared). You need either a direct line of sight or a wall to bounce the signal. With the swivel head, you can point the commander wherever you like. Additionally, if you like, unlike the built in flash commander which uses the built in flash, you will get focus help with this in your shoe (without strobing). I would say if you are debating between this and the canon product, save yourself the money and go with yonguo. I might advise the same if they were even the same price.
