A very good and cheap USb adapter Mar 09, 2010
By S. Escobar

I bought this after an old laptop stop booting. I didn't want to buy an enclosure and this adapter was the best choice after I opened the old laptop to extract the hard drive. It was very easy to work with this USB adapter since it gives you a lot of connection choices, virtually to are able to connect any ATA or SATA drive through it, after open the package it took me couple of minutes to hook up to my other computer and start to recover my data. I highly recommend this not only to recover data but if you have a hard disk around now you can use it without to buy an enclosure. One more thing, this adapter works with Windows and Macs.

Great Price! Jun 28, 2010
By Cherie The price was great and the shipping was fast. My only problem was that the device didn't come with instructions and I think that may have caused me to corrupt one of the harddrives by unplugging it before turning the computer off. I recommend finding some instructions online before using but the product was exactly as advertised and simple to connect.

Potentially dangerous Jan 09, 2012
By DLR Smell, spark, fizzle, pop! That's about the sequence of events after I plugged in the power supply for its 3rd use... The hard drive was connected to the adapter at that time and I'm not yet sure if it's shot. Good thing that it happened while I was right there! The power supply obviously has a defect (as confirmed by other reviews) and the seller shrugs it off saying that it's out of the 30 day warranty period. STAY AWAY from this item! It's not worth the savings...
Edit 1/13/12: After filing an A-to-z claim through Amazon, the seller emailed me asking that I call. During the call, the seller finally agreed, as a "courtesy" since it was past its 30 day warranty, to send me a replacement power supply. Nice effort but I still wouldn't trust the new one to be less dangerous than the original one...

Does exactly what I needed Mar 16, 2010
By B. Boaze I needed a way to connect a 2nd hard drive to a laptop that had operating system problems. This kit did the trick perfectly. I was able to format and load Windows on to a new hard drive and then connect my old hard drive to the USB port to copy my important files to the new one. Great product.

Worth the money, but BE CAREFUL!!! Nov 24, 2011

I would rate this five stars, but for a HUGE problem: the awful power adapter. I ran it for maybe five minutes with a laptop hard drive and there was a massive pop, like a capacitor exploding. The adapter was burning hot to the touch. I don't know if it fried that hard drive, I haven't tested it yet again.
Thankfully, the USB adapter itself works great. Decent (or good) transfer speeds. I was able to jury-rig an old PC power supply (they're practically free) to the included cable and it worked fine.
