An essential item for the HTPC Oct 20, 2011
By Wile E Coyote If you have a computer hooked up to your TV, you need one of these.
My only concern with this device, was how the mouse worked. There is no information anywhere, and even the you tube videos are of little help. I bought one anyway, and it really is the best invention.
The mouse is controlled by the three buttons in the centre. Point the remote at the TV and push the centre button, then just move the remote as you would any pointing device and the curser moves in a very fluid and controllable manner. Either side of the centre button are the left and right mouse buttons. To drag an item you just push the centre button twice, this activates the mouse constantly, so now you can use the left or right button and move the curser at the same time.
The keyboard hardly needs explanation, however I would have liked to see the media buttons more prominently placed, as those are the ones you're most likely to be using. Another minor niggle is the fact that there is only one 'shift' key. You have to thumb type with this thing, and not having a shift key on both sides is a real pain.
That's about all I can say really. It's a no-name Chinese thing, and came in a plain no-name box...... which is a slight concern. It's a great device, and I really wonder why the manufacturer is so shy about putting their name on it. They're advertised on Amazon under several different brand names. One listing even has a question mark after the name, as the seller clearly isn't sure if it's even correct.
Over all for basic web browsing and multi media use, it's perfect. It looks just like a remote (although slightly thicker) and is very intuitive. Keep the keyboard handy as you won't get far typing on this thing, but for entering web pages, searches and passwords, it works just fine.
Definitely worth the money. I'll keep you posted with regards durability, but so far, I highly recommend it.
