Beware - NOT a simple drive swap. Apr 23, 2012

My drive was clearly a refurbished unit. It works just fine, but it wasn't stated in the description. There are heat marks on the case from the heat sink it once sat above - for who knows how long. Again, the drive works fine.
I want to make others aware that despite purchasing an exact match for replacement, you can't simply swap this drive for your old one. The procedure is still trivial IMO, but I hope to save someone the headache of having to open their 360 two or three times trying to figure out why the new drive won't work. Be thankful that you've got a Hitachi drive to replace. The BenQ drive replacement requires a soldering iron.
You will need to swap the main board *inside the dvd case itself* for this to work.
I suggest two youtube video searches:
"Open 360 with tool"
"360 Hitachi Drive Board Replacement"
In summary:
Open your 360 using the xbox 360 tool (also available on amazon, cheap, $.99).
Remove the dvd drive.
Open the DVD drive.
GENTLY remove the ribbon cables from the board.
Do the same on your new DVD board.
Replace the old board with the new one.
Close everything back up, and power up your xbox.

I thought that i was buying a direct replacement with ordering the same model number as my old one but it did not work.. had to look on you tube to figure out that i had to get new software or a diferent drive so i swaped out the circit card with the old one and it works like a dream.
