Well designed, works great as a portrait mode dock Apr 29, 2011
By Tommy If you need a dock for your nifty new iPad 2, you should consider this Apple made dock. Definitely glad that I purchased it, does exactly what it's designed for.
Pros: * Small footprint * Enough weight to support the iPad 2, feels sturdy * Line out jack for your audio pleasure * Looks good
Cons: * No USB-iPad cable * Will only support the iPad2 in portrait orientation, not landscape
FYI, you can use it with the Smart Cover, however you need to fold open the Smart Cover all the way to the left for the iPad 2 to fit into the dock. Not possible to either have the Smart Cover folded in place over the iPad 2 front or folded all the way over the back. I just find it easier to take the Smart Cover off.
All told, I like it quite a bit. Would buy it again.

I like it but it has its cons Dec 29, 2011
By Drew Larck I just bought this and it is great. It charges my iPad 2 and it fits my second gen iPod touch too.
Pros: It feels really sturdy and im not afraid to put my iPad in it and leave it there. It only leaves a footprint the size of my fist It has an audio output unlike some other docks, you can play music through the iPad speaker itself and have volume control.
Cons: When I plugged my iPad speaker into the dock it was full blast. It is meant to work with the iPads volume control, but when you plug it into the audio output on the dock it reads it as a stereo or some sort of speaker with its own volume contols. A minor inconvenience for me because I do have a set of speakers that have volume control, but it is a noteworthy con
Like everyone is saying, it does not fit the iPad AND the smart cover. It does in fact work with the auto on/off and auto align and everything else the smart cover has to offer but it does not fit inside the lip of the dock. Clearly it wont though, or else it wouldnt be as snug and sturdy while sitting in the dock WITHOUT a smart cover. I do not consider this a Con because I dont always want my smart cover on it and I want it to be snug and sturdy.

Nice stand, but doesn't work with the Smart Cover Jun 05, 2011

This dock makes a nice vertical stand for the iPad 2, and also makes it easier to charge the unit.
The iPad will not fit in the dock if you're covering the screen with the Smart Cover, though. I was surprised by this, considering both of these products were designed by Apple. I'm surprised that Apple doesn't make sure that their own official accessories are compatible with each other!

Decent, not great Nov 16, 2011
By OregonBay Like I've stated in previous reviews, I usually rate Apple products at 5 stars. Not because I'm an Apple "Fan-boy" but because they are so much better than the competition that they deserve the 5 star rating. This dock is OK. It's not great. I like the fact that it is somewhat heavy and keeps the iPad in place, but it's hard to line the iPads Dock Connector female side up with the Dock Connector male on the dock. I struggle at times to get it to line up, almost every night...
I use this as a night time stand for my iPad 2, and run a clock app, so it serves as my alarm clock.
Pros:
Clean, simple, elegant, weighted nicely to keep the iPad in place.
Cons:
Hard to line up the dock connector. Only holds the iPad in Portrait position. Does not allow for the smart cover to be on the iPad while in the dock.
Overall, for the price and considering that it's a dock we are talking about, it's pretty decent. But I think there might be better docks out there.

Apple iPad 2 Dock Sep 13, 2011
By aventine61 Works great, and I leave my iPad on it whenever I am not using it. Though as others have said, having to take the smartcover off or open it slightly is a trifle annoying.
