I bought this for soapmaking and it works like a champ.
I didn't think it would be all that accurate but it gets within a few degrees.
Good enough for soap.
You won't be sorry if you buy this.

Guaranteed to be used on weekends; I make sure the pan is above 200F and below 300F before I put in my eggs.
It tends to get used at least once a week for something else, too; outside of cooking, you can find out if a vent is blowing cold or hot air.
I've also used this to check electronic components in a loudspeaker crossover.
Got one for my Mom on Mother's Day; she didn't know what to do with it until I talked to her; she just lit up when I told her what I do with mine.

Just point and click. Instant read temperature. Works on pots, pans, liquids, toaster ovens, great for determining the temperature of any surface.

I use this in soap making and it's very effective. However, it only measures the surface temperature. If you need to know the interior temp of a piece of meat or such, you'll be out of luck.

I bought this for my wife since she does a lot of cooking, and it's been one of the most fun tools we own. We use it for cooking, sure; but we've also started using it for all sorts of other purposes: which of the windows are leakiest in the winter, the temperature of the hot water in our bathroom (we have kids), etc. Well worth the purchase.
