5Works great with GoogleTV  Jun 20, 2011
By Alicia Aberle
I researched many HDMI to Component converters before ordering this one. It worked very well for my needs. I'm using it with GoogleTV - However, the app I'm using on GoogleTV doesn't have any sound. I have no idea if it converts sound as well as picture. I am seeing no loss of color or clarity between the HDMI direct connection and the converter.

2Nothing but headaches so far.  Nov 23, 2011
By wtfrubs
I bought this item because I have a PLASMA TV mounted on the wall above a fireplace in the living room that was already prewired with component cables (the house was brand new when I bought it and somehow the media team foolishly used the component cables rather than HDMI cables even though all the units were HDMI ready... go figure...) and that I wanted to try GOOGLE TV which can only be used with HDMI cables. Btw, the component cables are connected to the TV and into the wall running to another part of the room, hence, the mud room which houses the Blu-ray player, cable box, etc. Instead of painfully fishing an HDMI cable through about 20 feet of wall from the TV to the area that houses all the console units, I figured that by buying this HDMI to COMPONENT converter that this would do the trick.
Boy was I wrong! After buying and hooking up the Logitech REVUE google TV, I was not able to get any signal to the TV. But somehow if I connect the cable box directly into the HDMI to COMPONENT converter, it works. But with the Logitech REVUE properly connected, IT DIDNT WORK - NO SIGNAL!!!. So I was convinced that the Logitech REVUE was defective and so I returned it and exchanged it for the SONY google TV instead (Best Buy also stated that Logitech Revue were soon to be discontinued). Likewise, the same thing happened with this item - NO SIGNAL!!! So, then I was convinced that somehow I had a connection problem. Therefore, I exchanged and tested all of my HDMI cables and found nothing wrong with them and then tested the SONY google TV with another HDTV and discovered that it worked like a charm!!! It suddenly dawned on me that there was nothing wrong with the SONY google TV and probably nothing wrong with the LOGITECH REVUE google TV I purchased initially! So I tried calling SONY for technical support and unfortunately nobody on that end was able to help me nevertheless understand why things weren't working on my end. I then did some research online and found out that others with the similar setup were having issues as well. Somehow people that were adding "pass-through devices" (HDMI to component converter, in this case) with their google TV units were all having problems. I guess somehow this was one of the issues that many people were having and that 'GOOGLE TV companies' still needed to fix and figure things out since this was a relatively new technology and kinks still needed to be addressed.
In the end, I was bummed out since I was not able to use my GOOGLE TV in my living room. But since the HDMI to component converter still worked with the cable box (at&t U-verse) via HDMI, I left it alone. But a week later, I discovered a new dilemma, I happened to buy a just released Sony 3D Blu-ray player and hooked it up in the living room and guess what?! Same problem - NO SIGNAL!!! But fortunately, the Sony 3D blu-ray player worked fine with my other HDTVs in the house so i kept it but I just KNEW that even WITHOUT Google TV units, that this HDMI to component converter just didn't work at ALL times. In my case, it seems as if it only works with my at&t cable box and with my older model DVD player (with HDMI outputs but with no Blu-ray) that I had and tested. But with anything else such as Google TV units like the Logitech REVUE and the SONY google TV and even with the newest blu-ray players on the market, this converter JUST DOES NOT WORK!!! I came to the conclusion that this product is somehow not updated or advanced enough to process EVERY signal from all of the newest and latest devices out on the market. So buyer beware!!!!! Overall, I am not a happy camper and now I am considering to getting someone to help me fish a super long HDMI cable through 20 feet of sheetrock in my living room wall that the builder and the media team should of done in the very first place.

By the way, I am giving this product two stars instead of one only cuz WHEN it does work (with the at&t cable box and older model DVD players), the signal appears to be preserved.

5works perfectly!  Oct 31, 2011
By Jesse'sGirl
I purchased this video converter to connect a Logitech Revue to an older TV with the red/blue/green cables- It works perfectly and picture and sound are great! It was delivered quickly and set up was simple and easy- They even included an HDMI cable with the unit- All in all an excellent buy!

4May not be compatible w. 1080p  Feb 24, 2012
By Stephen Smith
I was amazed this gizmo worked at all, much less well. A lot of people told me a HDMI-to-component "black box" was a myth, but I was desperate. I had bought a Roku2 XS from Amazon (reviewed elsewhere) but the HDTV I wanted to connect it with had no HDMI input; only component. So I took a chance. Voila! Worked like a charm...at least at 720p; at 1080p the image was scrambled. Now, the TV (an elderly Samsung; one of the first HDTVs) may not have been truly capable of displaying 1080p, so it may not have been the converter's fault, but the converter worked well at 720p (solid image; no fringing, noise or other artifacts), so I was a happy camper.

1Doesn't work with xbox 360 HDMI.  Dec 31, 2011
By andre2142
This product claims to support HDMI version 1.3, but for whatever reason, can't convert audio/video from an Xbox 360 elite (which is HDMI 1.2).

So, if you're buying this for use with anything HDMI 1.2 and above (i.e. pretty much any piece of electronics purchased after 2001), don't expect it to work.
