This alarm works the way it's described Sep 02, 2009
I've had this alarm for 2 months now and just ordered a second for the back door. The door alarm is VERY loud and piercing. I would think a burglar would not bother entering a home if this alarm was set off. If you want to use the Home mode (so that it sounds off right away when the door is opened), you have a choice of selecting "chime" or "alarm." For the Home mode using "alarm" you do have to activate it with your 4 digit code but you do not need to punch in your code if you're using "chime" for Home mode.
When you set it to "Away" mode, you just need to enter your 4 digit code and leave within 45 seconds. When you come home, you have 30 seconds to enter your code to deactivate the alarm.

Great product does exactly what it says. Recommended. Jun 13, 2010
I have three of these. One is used as an instant on alarm for a door that nobody is supposed to EVER open. The alarm is LOUD AS THE DICKENS !!! I mean LOUD LOUD ear hurting loud. That's a good thing.
The other two are used as door chimes for every time a door opens (in our case at our place of business).
Th unit comes with both screws and double-sided pressure sensitive tape. Installation is a snap. They will mount on either side of the door, too. Setting your 4 digit code is also a no-brainer: hit the learn button, then enter your 4 numbers on the keypad. See the green light. You're done.
If anybody has a problem with this thing, then they are expecting it to be something it is not. Oh, of course it has batteries. And they are not included. So get some and quit whining.
For what it does, it does it well... and for a peanuts price, too. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

good purchase Jul 10, 2010

this item does exactly what it says it does. the area i live in was having a rash of break ins mid day. my husband and i live in a 3 story colonial. it is hard enough to hear whats going on on other floors but add in daily life like tv, air conditioners, fans and music and you cant hear at all. when we are home during the day we set the alarm to chime and it lets us know if our door opens, from every floor. at night we set it to home so that if an intruder enters we will hear them. during the day when we are at work it is set to away to alert my neighbors if anyone tries to enter our home. you can not simply take out the batteries as another review stated ... you need a screwdriver to do so. and with the sheer volume of the sound that is outputted by the alarm, anyone would run from the home, thinking it was connected to a company. deffinatly worth the investment. we have put one on our basement door as well, to alert us if that door opens since we do not go down there very often.

Great Product Sep 03, 2011
Oddly We have had this guy stop by our home and want to buy our motorhome twice in the last year
NOTE: there is NO for sale sign on it
He showed up last week as I was leaving for work, after I left i called my husband I said something is strange
the way our property sits our motor home is like 200 feet away from house
so I ordered this product and waited it's arrival
Well just Yesterday 09/02/2011 we intalled this wireless alarm in our motor home
3:30 am my daughter woke us and said there is a loud alarm going off out back
I was thinking to myself this better not be false alarm
NOPE, someone broke into the motor home and when the arlarm sounded they were gone
in a hurry even dropping there flashlight and one had taken the gas cap off there had to be two of them
BUT you could hear this alarm screaming all the way to the house
Good investment now I am purchasing Motion sensors and I hope I get as good of luck
I feel sorry for the bastard when I get him

What you need to know Jun 25, 2015
I ordered this handy little device for my apartment since the landlord does not provide any sort of security system or door chime.
With that purpose in mind, here are some notes that will address many questions people are having
-I was worried the unit would be too big and look ugly on a door but it is small and reasonably lightweight even with batteries (see pictures)
-The unit requires 3 AAA batteries (not included)
-There is a screw that needs to be undone to access the batteries, thus an intruder triggering the alarm would have to know the code or quickly smash the thing (hard plastic). Most intruders would probably run
-The alarm is loud and close to piercing. No ability to adjust volume which is why it didn't get full 5 stars
- There are two switches so four different modes you can be in although some modes do the same thing
1. Home/Chime - a short simple chime when the door is opened
2. Home/Alarm - No sound when the door is opened and closed, UNLESS you type in a code. Green light flashes and you now know if the door is opened the alarm immediately goes off and won't stop until code is typed in.
3.Away/Alarm - No sounds unless you type in the code and red light flashes for 30 seconds while you leave. Once you re-enter a red light flashes for 45 seconds giving you a chance to type in the code or else it will then sound the alarm
4. Away/Chime - Short simple charm when the door is opened
This is a simple little unit that provides a cheap alarm system as well as a door chime. Obviously it will not call for help or provide additional protection, but for the simple use of providing noise and a flashing light when an intruder walks in it will get the job done
