Not worth it! Mar 26, 2013
By MHalstead I bought this to put in our ps3 and less than a month later it stopped working! REALLY?! I would not recommend ANYONE buying this crap!
It works! Aug 28, 2012
By john morgando I bought the drive to replace a broken drive in my ps3. Installed easily and it works. The outside was a little scratched but no problems and I have had it for about a month. Make sure you have a tamper proof torx bit before you get it, you need it to open the case, amazon usually shows one as something customers also bought.
Arrived quick and worked perfectly... for a month. Aug 22, 2012
By Aaron Used this to replace the drive on my fat Ps3. In all, it took me about 15 mins to replace. There are no instructions included, but there are plenty of walkthroughs online if you need them. It came with a circuit board installed to protect the ribbon cables. You have to swap it with your original circuit board or else your Ps3 won't recognize the drive. I couldn't be happier with this product. As of right now, it is working perfectly. Hopefully, it will last me a while, but if I have any issues, I'll post an update to this review.
UPDATE- Well, it died in just under a month. Brainydeal's customer service was excellent and they offered to replace it for free. I shipped it back to them, but then got an email saying that they are out of stock on this item and they would refund my money instead. They even refunded the shipping cost to me, but I had to ask. I would definitely do business with them in the future. Hopefully, the next shipment of PS3 lasers they receive will last longer though.
Opened drive to find IT'S JAMMED!? Aug 18, 2012
By The_Freshest So, I've read the bad reviews and figured I'd try this anyway. DUMB!! So I get the drive swap control boards, should be that easy. Nope. No blue LED, no nothing. Swapped control board back to old drive, I at least got the blue LED. At this point I say screw it and decide to open up the new drive, maybe it's a simple fix. First thing I found is that one of the tracks were jammed, so even if it were getting power, wouldn't work. Then I tried to make one working drive out of two POSs I now own. This amalgamation of craptasticness still has yet to yield any results, will keep trying though. Basically, 80-90% New means it's still used and untested. I would say it may have gotten electronically passed, if it were recognized, but with the electronic and mechanical failures of this item, I would guess someone just threw it in a box and said "Woohoo $65!" Well I say, "Thanks for nothing a-hole!"
