Good Idea Jan 04, 2012
By Ben Fisher If you don't have any problems with your iPhone's on screen keyboard, or if you have enormous fingers this is NOT for you. This is for the person that is tired of missing letters because you cant feel the buttons. Or maybe if you want to throw your iphone across the room because you entered the wrong character and now auto correct changes it to a word that is so far past what you wanted to write, you wonder if you should have just wrote a letter with a pen and paper in the first place.
The iPhone 4 is approximately 3/8" thick. With this case/keyboard combo it increases to 3/4". Not too bad considering you now have a full qwerty keyboard (I mean cut a 2-1/4"x 8-1/2" piece of 3/4" plywood and its the same size). The Look is very slick and it goes well with the color scheme of the iPhone (black and chrome).
There are two downsides to this device that have pretty quick solutions: One is that the keyboard is always active when it is on. The only way to overcome this issue is to either turn your keyboard off when you're not using it (which honestly is a pain in the behind because you have to turn it on when you want to use it, and it takes a few seconds to turn on and sync.), or after your done typing hold the "fn" button and hit the spacebar to enable your onscreen iPhone keyboard. I have had to do this a few times because i wanted to use emoji icons and the only way to get to them is through the onscreen keyboard. Downside two is that i feel like it will break very soon. I personally like to keep my iPhone in my pocket. I'm afraid that this device will not hold up for too long. If i squeeze it against the back of the iPhone it gives into the 1/16" space between the case and the Keyboard. If i don't lock my phone and put it in my pocket, i will surely pull it out and be welcomed by a bunch of 5's and T's. When i slide the keyboard out it moves with great ease, making me think one day it will just go shooting off under a couch somewhere. Good thing it only cost $27 bucks and not $40 like a decent Bluetooth headset.
So for a short review: I like it, it works, it may break easily, but it only costs $27 bucks. If you have enormous fingers or have NO ISSUE with the onscreen iPhone keyboard you wont be happy.
