5Great piece of equipment at a great price  Aug 19, 2012
By Hardybrewer
Looks like I am the first to review. I bought this refractometer with a little hesitation because there were no reviews. I was pleasantly surprised to find it at my door step less than a week after ordering.
I am a beer homebrewer and was buying it to be able to check preboil specific gravity readings as well as Original Gravity readings.
I calibrated as instructed with some distilled water at 68F (it was a little off, maybe .2 Brix). Comes with a nice box/Case and screwdriver to calibrate with as well as a little dropper and cleaning towel.
brewed today and checked all readings against a reasonably accurate hydrometer and found it to be dead-on each time. Optics are very clear and seems to be pretty well built.
Great buy.

2Fast shipping, but not as advertised  Dec 23, 2012
By Washington Rain Camper
Ok, just got it in the mail today. The shipping was much faster than expected, but just like the others in the past, it wasn't what I thought it would be. It shows the refractometer, screwdriver, cleaning cloth, case and eyedropper. The case and cleaning cloth were not in the order. It was wrapped in bubble wrap and shipped in a bubble padded envelope. I would have thought it would be in a box with styrofoam at least to protect from damage with our postal carriers. I want all that was showed and will be sending an email to the seller. Hopefully they will make it right or I will return it.

5Works Perfectly.  Feb 27, 2013

I use this for home brewing beer and it's severed me very well. Solid construction, serves it's purpose perfectly at a bargain price, and the seller is very courteous and easy to deal with. I highly recommend this to any home brewer.

5Works Great  Feb 01, 2013

I use this refractometer in our brewpub and it gets the job done. East to read and gather results fast.

3Did not come with the case or additional pipettes as stated in the product description!!  Jan 21, 2013
By Shawn M. Crawford
It works okay, though is a little hard to read quite precisely due to the smallness of the scale and the fact that to have a really clear line you need to be looking into bright sunlight. It's suitable for my purposes of homebrewing to get an initial specific gravity reading of wort pre-boil, and with the BeerSmith software program I can convert refractometer readings from fermented wort to specific gravity (as long as you know the original unfermented gravity), which otherwise takes a complicated formula since alcohol changes the way the refraction behaves. For the price I'd say I'm mostly satisfied. What I'm not satisfied with is that it was missing the case and extra pipettes pictured and described with the product. Is nice to have, as it's quicker and uses less wort/beer than a hydrometer in a tube.
