Second update on my review Nov 12, 2011
By N. P. Collins SECOND UPDATE 12.4.11: Turns out that the problem WAS my "new" charger, not the battery. Although the charger was relatively new, it was malfunctioning. Apple replaced it at no charge. Right now I'm still using my old battery, which won't hold a charge long but works fine as long as it's plugged in.
The new battery (the one bought on Amazon in this review) is too difficult to remove, so even though I'm sure it will work, I'm not using it at the moment. It does not pop up when you push the latches, and we've had to pry it out with a knife.

UPDATE: My son was able to get the battery out, so it's no longer stuck. I have followed the directions that came with the battery, but it is still not charging. I don't think it's the charger, because that's relatively new. What is the purpose of the cable they send with the battery? What does it plug into? And now the battery is down to 25% - it started at 75%.

I just received this and installed it in my macbook pro. There was a 75% charge on it, but it's not charging on the laptop. I tried to remove it, but it won't come out - won't pop up when I push the latches. The charge is now down to 42% and fading fast. Aside from this, it arrived within the timeframe specified and looks great.

Mediocre at best Dec 16, 2011
By Timothy M. Wright After the good reviews here, I decided to order this battery (in fact, as my girlfriend has the same laptop, I ordered two).
The best thing about this battery is the price.
But the rest of the picture is not so good.
First, despite others' claims, this battery is not a "perfect fit." It both protrudes from the battery case enough that my footless MacBook Pro now rests of the battery. The new battery also doesn't release properly (you have to pry it out). This was a problem with both batteries so you can pretty much assume this is its normal fit.
Next, and more important, this battery does not provide the power advertised. Neither of the batteries has charged higher than 5100 mAh and, at that, only achieved that charge level once. The battery in my computer, which I have carefully watched for 11 cycles now, has steadily dropped through the 4000s and right now, just 11 cycles into its life is at 3875 mAh. Around cycle 7 the laptop's charge warning came on: "Service Battery." The battery in my girlfriend's laptop has performed better (it's around 4900 mAh at the sixth cycle and no warning message yet) but, considering what it should be (remember this is supposed to be be a 5800 mAh battery), I would hardly recommend this battery.
At the current cycle-charge rate I suspect this battery will need replacing in three or four months.

Works great so far Jan 14, 2012
By Timur Tabi I have a 2007 MacBook Pro ("MacBookPro3,1"), which is known to destroy batteries every 12 months. Indeed, I've had this battery replaced with an official Apple battery three times, once every 10-14 months. Each time, the Apple store tech would take pity on me and give me a new battery for free. I tried every trick in the book to extend battery life, but none of it helped. A friend who has a MacBookPro4,1 is still using his original Apple battery, which is now almost four years old. So there's definitely something wrong with this model of laptop.
Once again, my battery died in December 2011, but I was unable to get a free replacement this time. I would purchase an official Apple battery if I thought that it would last four years, but I know that it won't.
Based on the other reviews, I took a chance and purchased this battery. Since there are so many third-party knock-off batteries, it's important to specify the exact brand and vendor of the battery. I purchased mine from "BrainyDeal", and I received a box that said "AGPTEK" on it.
The battery arrived half-charged, which I think is normal. CoconutBattery says that its maximum charge is 5000 mAh. New Apple batteries are supposed to have 5400 mAh, so this battery already only at 92%. I'm okay with that. As long as it lasts at least a year, I'll consider it a success. I don't use this laptop that much, and I rarely use it unplugged anyway.
The battery fits just fine in the laptop. As others have commented, it doesn't pop out properly when unlatched, and it's not completely flush with the bottom. It juts out maybe 1/32nd of an inch, which is barely noticeable. My laptop has small rubber feet, so the battery doesn't touch the table surface anyway. The battery button is glossy instead of matte, but it shows the proper power level when pressed.
It also came with a two-foot USB extension cable (male on one end, female on the other). I have no idea why, as it's not used for anything. Perhaps it has some value on some PCs, and so it's included with all batteries.
I will post periodic updates to this review during the months ahead. So far, I'm extremely happy with this battery.

Better than expected Oct 05, 2011
By Jamie It's been about a month. I get about 2+ hours (playing music constantly AND with Airport turned on) - and I cycle the battery everyday. Can't believe I didn't have to pay $80 for a battery like this. Love it.

Worse than Apple Replacement Battery Jan 28, 2012
By Sound Hound I've purchased Apple's replacement batteries in the past and had far better results. After reading the reviews here, I hoped that I could save a few dollars and not have to purchase another battery from Apple but I learned a hard lesson. This battery barely lasted 2 months before the "service battery" indicator showed up. I followed all the information provided regarding cycling and then death. What a waste of money. Given the reviews, there clearly is a huge issue with the quality control of these batteries. Don't take the chance.
