 Very poor reception Mar 15, 2011

We bought this monitor for our baby girl so we could work on our garage we're building. The garage is located about 35 ft from the house. Without even having insulation in the building yet the monitor does not work. Very broken up signal. Numerous times we checked the monitor and it was frozen. Went inside to check on the baby and she was not happy. This product gives a false sense of security. I would not recommend buying this product. Very misleading product description.

This monitor is a really great price for two cameras and a portable monitor.
Pros:
-The picture quality is great, though I had to reset one of the channels on one of the cameras to get reception. It really was easy to do - the instructions are included.
-The sound quality is really good. I even use a sound machine in my baby's room and the monitor picks that up, of course, but I have no problem hearing her sigh, move, etc. even over the sound machine!
-The monitor battery lasts a good 3 to four hours which is great during the day since I'm moving around the house a lot. I just leave it plugged in at night beside my bed and it charges up for the next day.
Cons:
-The nightlight feature is super sensitive and it often turns on by itself which can be distracting/stimulating for a baby trying to sleep. I've noticed that it tends to do this when a light is turned on in a nearby room so I don't know if it's just sensitive to electrical surges or what. I haven't tried plugging it into a surge protector but I'm curious if that would make a difference. This is the biggest problem I've had with the monitor. I've used some of my older daughter's model magic clay to fashion a cover for the nightlight bulbs but the night vision lights are still exposed. That way if the light turns on in the middle of the night it's barely noticeable. Bummer that I've had to do that but seems to be a decent solution.
- I don't get reception outdoors from our second floor nursery which is disappointing because I would like to be able to take older kids outside while babies are sleeping and still see when the babies wake up
I would say overall that this is definitely a good buy. If you don't mind crafting something to cover up the nightlight and don't need to take it outdoors, I would definitely recommend it!

Sometimes you do get what you pay for. This product is a nice idea but the one I received is going back after only two days. The "baby lights" on both cameras go on an off on their own whim. One camera has since quit transmitting but its lights still work. The clip-on camera and the surprisingly good reception is nice but the product didn't even make it a full 24 hour period of use. I'm going to try to return for credit, nice 15% restocking fee + shipping, and invest in a better quality device.
