Works fine, will probably last a long time. It's perhaps a rare individual who needs a micrometer, but for the job there's no other option; fast accurate measurements of small items is a rarely needed but incredibly valuable piece of information.
This tool is precise, repeatable and well made mechanically - I can see myself using it for years to come. It came well packaged with protective wrap around it's own case and everything I needed to start using it immediately.
I've tested it on three items I knew the accurate dimensions of, and have checked repeatability on other items - in every case it exceeded my expectations. This is a great tool.

I ordered these calipers for use in the field, measuring insects. In the photo (and in real life!), they look like the same brand sold by BioQuip. However, the movement of the caliper is rough and kind of jerky; the spin wheel floats weirdly. I compared them with a set from BioQuip and although they look nearly identical, they behave very, very differently.
The measurements are repeatable to 0.01 mm, but they are jerky to operate and I am working with live insects - do not want to accidentally squeeze them because I can't control the caliper movement... I blame myself for trying to be too thrifty. I'll be keeping these for backup, but ordering a better set for my research needs.

Caliper was received without damage. It's protected by the plastic storage case which was included. It is working fine, no problems.
