Its not OEM...so what??? Feb 02, 2011
By Jose The main complaint from people is that this piece is not an OEM HDD...so what? you do get what you pay for, you get a WD 250gb HDD in a reproduction HDD case. It works, I plugged mine in and it serves its purpose - there is even some troll posting that he has an "old friend" in "Redmond"...so this guy is leading us to believe that he has some type of insider information from MS, that they're going to ban users for using these drives and it's complete BS. MS cannot ban you for buying and using YOUR drive, people get banned for modifying MS designed equipment, ie their designed DVD drives, chipset, etc. This is a violation of the terms of LIVE / warranty, because these mods are done with the intent to run pirated games and applications that were not developed by official means. The worst thing that could happen is that they put out an update that renders third party storage devices useless like they did with the Datel memory cards on the first gen system, if anyone remembers. I doubt that would happen though, because 1. The "slim" does not use memory cards 2. MS released the last update to include thumb drives as storage options 3. The drives are based on what MS themselves use in OEM drives - it would be hard to ban what closely resembles OEM 4. These mods are not mean to circumvent any protection on the xbox. In fact most people that do this are merely trying to save a buck. I took the $100 or so that I saved and went out to buy some more games, I don't pirate, don't JTAG, don't cheat online - I just want more space to go along with the official software I buy, in fact I'm very much a MS fanboy - I have PC's running Win, I own a Zune, have the original Xbox and just traded in my 20gb first gen Xbox 360 and bough the slim with Kinnect. Oh, and to the person who says that the drive only shows 227gb...the xbox will format the drive and use a certain amount of space for system files, in this case 23gb. It will do that with ANY drive, even the OEM one. You can't knock a product for something that is beyond its control...
To summarize this, you either want to save a buck or you don't. Buy it and save a few ucks or spend $120 and get an OEM - its that simple...

Save The Extra $50.00 dollars and Just Be Smart About The Drives Feb 04, 2011
By Rich

After seeing a lot of differing reviews about this hard drive I just decided to take a chance on it and after using the hard drive for awhile I see no problem with it at all. The drive snapped into my Xbox 360 slim console drive slot easily and after turning on my Xbox and downloading a few updates the console uses and sees the hard drive as it would if you bought the $110.00 dollar one that Microsoft is selling(At least I think that Hard drive is from Microsoft), people have also talked how this won't let you play earlier Xbox games an the like. I only have two old Xbox games but after transferring the information an such over to this drive they still work and play just the same, I can't say this will work for every Xbox game but so far mine have been playing fine so I feel that the previous warning about this not working with the old Xbox games is pretty much bogus. Also people have cried about this only having 227gb instead of the 250gb but like any hard drive from PC to Laptop to Xbox all hard drives have a usage space basically to keep program information an the like and still for $50.00 dollars I'm more than willing to overlook this. So for those looking to save some money here's a much more affordable hard drive that works a easily and readily as the $110.00 dollar Microsoft hard drive does....

Money well spent Jan 18, 2011

Works great, installs and runs games with no problems. I also like the fact it's a Western Digital hard drive in the adapter case.
Why spend double the price, for the Micosoft hard drive

Not sure if I should keep it... Mar 22, 2011
By Krish I wasn't sure about buying this drive from the start, but saving $50+ dollars on a drive seemed like a great idea to me, so I went for it.
When I first got the drive, I plugged it right in. It showed up fine, but as soon as I tried to "Install" a game to it, it stopped working. It showed up on my XBOX as "Unformatted." I tried formatting it, and the XBOX said it was unable to. I tried taking the drive out and reinserting it and it still didn't work. Finally after waiting a while and turning the XBOX off with the drive still in, I tried again. The drive formatted and showed up with 228GBs of storage space. So once again I tried installing a game to it and it failed once again and the drive went back to being "Unformatted," I repeated the process and got it working again and tried to just copy some content to it. It worked, and then without me doing anything to it, it reverted back to "Unformatted." I packed the drive up in its box with the intention of returning it for either or different one or my money back.
Right before I was about to go through the long process of returning it, I decided to try ONE more time. I popped the drive in, formatted it, and I installed a game to it. I was relieved that it was all working so well. Now, I get error codes saying that the game I installed needs to be reinstalled or deleted from the harddrive, my games have to download updates they already have, or the updates(that I already have) fail and force me to restart the XBOX until they work.
I'm torn here between keeping a significantly cheaper harddrive that kinda works that I'm hoping will stop giving me issues or returning it and just shelling out the extra money for the Microsoft one. I'll wait a week before deciding on keeping it/exchanging it for another one/returning it.
After reading all the other reviews, it seems that there is only one other person who had issues who exchanged it for a working one, so I'll probably go that route and let you guys know how it goes.

Inexpensive and Easy. Mar 02, 2011
By Nate (SgtVeXX) Allen Exactly as it should be and much cheaper. Even says Microsoft as if it were from them on the XBOX once installed.
Note: If upgrading your 4GB XBOX Slim you don't have to transfer any data. The drive bay in empty and the 4GB is hardwired in somewhere. So this drive slides into the bay and is in addition to the 4GB you already have. So the XBOX will show 2 drives available for saving data. No hassle plug and play!
