not for e6500 Oct 12, 2011
By griffindore The caddy is pretty cheap, but then again the price was pretty cheap too. It is what I expected though, a piece of plastic with the correct dimensions for my hard drive with the correct connection to transition hard drive to bay connector for the E6500; with one exception, it doesn't fit the E6500 properly.
Dell redesigned the edges for the e6500 from the e6400, so the front plate doesn't match properly to the E6500. I'm assuming it would match properly to the E6400 since I previously had one of those laptops and it looks to be the correct front plate. This is a purely cosmetic complaint, and unfortunately I haven't found an E6500 version anywhere on the pipes (dork humor for internet).
The other issue is that the piece of plastic meant to allow you to pull the caddy out recesses too far in for the E6500 which results in not allowing you to push the caddy all the way in. Thankfully, this piece of plastic can be removed with a screwdriver, but then I don't think there will be anyway to get the caddy back out of the laptop. It will also be leaving an undesired gap that will aid in accumulating dust and other unwanted junk into the inside of that bay. The screw to mount the piece of plastic is right on the edge of where the plastic would need to be cut in order to get it to fit, so I'm not sure if that's going to be an option. I'm currently looking to see if I can transfer the ejector from my DVD caddy onto this new caddy, but if I can't, I may have to be returning this.
You can find this type of caddy that has an ejector on Ebay. I recommend doing that instead of buying here.

Cheap and effective Aug 30, 2011
By Dan I work in IT and was given a brand new laptop with a 250GB SSD, which is fine for all of my applications and whatever else minor storage I need. However, I run VMs constantly and was always running out of space with the SSD so I picked one of these up (albeit.. from ebay instead of amazon).
The previous reviewer is right, it's not the sturdiest of parts. I am able to pull it back out, but I typically use a flat head screw driver to help pry it back out. That said, I've only had to remove it twice. I barely use the stock DVD drive so this isn't much of an issue for me. If you're looking for a new internal hard drive and don't use your dvd/cdrom drive this will work well for you.

Piece of garbage Aug 24, 2011
By Dan Whetzel What a piece of garbage. Please shoppers do not waste your time on this piece of crap. It is made very cheaply of flimsy parts. The caddy does not even have the standard spring loaded ejection handle. If you ever want it back out (if you need to swap back in your optical drive) just forget. You must pry against a flimsy piece of plastic which breaks immediately. This leaves you with a media bay that has this crappy caddy in it with no way to get it back out. I had to slowly work the thing out by pulling on it with pliers. Only buy this cheaply made caddy if you never, ever need to take it back out. The design of this caddy is irritating beyond belief.
I wish that I was able to give this product zero stars, but Amazon makes you choose at least one star.
Sturdy, does the job well Apr 29, 2012
By David Luke I've worked in IT for a number of years, so believe me when I say this item works as expected. No issues relating to this hardware. Verified that it fits properly in an E6510. The caddy is easily removed when needed, but stays put otherwise.
Interesting retention mechanism, would feel a bit better if there were screw holes to hold the disk in place.
What else can I say? If you have the need for a second disk in your Dell Latitude E6xx0 or E43x0 laptop, this caddy should do the trick. :-)
Does what it's supposed to do.. cheaply.. Nov 28, 2011
By Rob This was bought for a Latitude E6400*
I would recommend looking elsewhere for something better than this. Not only was this a very tight fit getting into my laptop, it has no way what-so-ever to remove it. The only way I've been able to get it out of my system is to remove the bottom cover of my laptop and push the unit out. So if you would like to occasionally reinsert your laptops optical drive, this could be a pretty big inconvenience. You will also need something to keep the hard drive in place once you've put it in the caddy. There is about half an inch or so of extra space with no apparent way to keep the drive secured. You are given a little bag with four small screws in it, but they seem to serve no purpose. It's also worth noting that, aesthetically, this will look like you have some kind of universal CD/DVD drive picked up from a dollar store in your computer; complete with logos, fake buttons and a non-working activity indicator.
