They changed the design Jul 29, 2011
By primetime I bought a box of 10 sky lanterns from this company in 2010 and absolutely loved them. They always had plenty of lift on take off and went very high in the sky. I timed them and they had approximately a 4 minute light time before they extinguished. I wanted to buy some more this year and went through the same company. They have changed the design as they are smaller in dimension and do not have the lift and duration of the ones I bought last year. They are still nice to see lit and floating upwards. I just thought I was buying the same product that I received in 2010 and therefore disapointed in the performance in comparison.

Fabulous sky lanterns Feb 05, 2011
By akicecream These were the highlight of my daughter's 5th birthday. We had seen the movie Tangled and I thought it would be a really fun idea to send these up for her birthday party. All of the kids were outside sledding and the adults sent the sky lanterns up - we couldn't believe how high they went and how beautiful it was. Everyone asked where I got them - I have no doubt that we will do it again:)

Beautiful and bright...left us with fright... Dec 31, 2011
By Josef Chamberlin Can I say something here? I'm not going to label myself a SkyLantern Master Jedi or anything, but I have launched quite a few...and for the first time after 100's of 'em, I felt a little unsafe.
* The directions, albeit not exactly needed by us...are so poorly translated, "Beware of the fire demon who lurks in the sky!" They're for entertainment purposes only. You're on your own, Fire Demons.
* These are just a teeny bit smaller, a teeny bit cheaper...to us, as for quality control, it must have been a really bad day @Chinese SkyLantern Factory #9
* Compared to other SkyLantern's, these use a different ignition source - the better-quality one's use wax-encased paper, these use what looks to be fire-log wax, affixed via wire ends you twist yourself...the other type are ready-2-fly. Consequently, the flame is higher, not nec. hotter...and burns out quicker. The negative? Because it's all wax, it's heavier...and man, when you're ready to fly, they rise a-c-h-i-n-g-l-y s-l-o-w, which wouldn't be big deal if not for a little wind and a few shots of Special 151 Proof Herbal "Wong Hung Low" brand power drink, with genuine Unicorn Horn and Horsefly Extract...which means they are a heck'of'a'lot more nail biting to launch, herbal drink of not...since you're essentially launching a burning mass of wax below a paper-balloon and you want that sucker to go high.
All in all? The other lanterns listed...for just a little bit more $$...would have been worth it for safety's sake. The other ones we bought easily went 2000-3000ft, and these went 1000ft max (I'm a pilot and ex-USAF...I can tell). The directions were indecipherable and we needed a larger area free of obstructions.
Even 'tho they looked pretty...the stress wasn't worth the 5$-$10 we saved. In our case, one group's Skylantern's could have been another city's fire hazard.

Be careful!!! Jan 16, 2012
By ckbabs I've set these off a few times in the past with family. No problem. We LOVE it! We even write our wishes gently with marker on the lanterns. This past week we set some off and to my horror, the wind picked up and blew one onto the roof. It then couldn't get an updraft to carry it up. And there it stayed bouncing around on a roof. THANK GOD the building didn't catch on fire but I've never been so freaked out in my life. Do not do this if there is even a whisper of wind. Scared me enough that I don't think I'll ever be able to do it again. I've never posted before but I really feel that people need to know the possible dangers.
